Emotional intelligence is an important factor that encourage the success of our children, not only in school but also in their later life for example in their job. Emotional intelligence (EQ) can be defined as the capability of individual to understand, use and regulating their emotion. EQ lead anyone to make a stable relationship, make a wise decision and also have a strength to facing an difficult situation. Children who have a good EQ can easily adapted to their environment, more self confident and have an optimal personality. In early their life, children easily can internalized everything they learn thorough seeing, listening, hearing or touching. There are some tips that can increase their EQ:
- Be a good role model
Habiting the children to do right thing can be learned from their parents. How we could teach our child to be “a cute boy or girl” if the parents still good enough? For example, parents can teach a children to say “would you mind to help me to….” If they asking for some help or say “thank you” for every assistance they get.
- Help the children to regulate their own emotion
Validating our children emotion is important aspect in their development. Communication and love is the main key to them to regulate their emotion. Asking for what they feel also teach them to become more open to their parents and can be honest to discuss who to deal with it. Finally the children can regulate their negative emotion for example angry in an acceptable manner.
- Build children empathy
Empathy can make a children feel their self in “other shoes”. This thing can make them more sensitive to other situation. For example, parents can ask them about how their feeling if they were lost their book? Would they let their friends sharing this book together. This habit can increasing their wisdom and also good attitude in their later life.
- Getting the children to work together
Doing some household together with children can give them motivation, learn to take responsibility and also increase their “reward” for helping others. Parents can give them to do some task together for example sweeping the yard together, gardening or make some dishes together.
- Increasing the problem solving skill in children
In life there is no conflict right? So to facing this friction in their life, parents should guiding them to hlearn how to solve their own problem. For example when they have a fight with their parents, parents can offer some option for children which one they will taking an action.
- Developing a self esteem in their children
Every process can meet some challenge and failure, if the children have motivated enough they can have a struggle to achieve their dreams. They will understand that sometimes it takes time, hardwork and effort to get what they want in their life.
